All MOMP survey routes near Unity completed

The four Maine Owl Monitoring Program (MOMP) survey routes conducted near Unity are now completed. The routes are Montville 14-1-B, Clinton 21-4-B, Albion 21-4-A, and Knox 22-3-A. Each route recorded fewer owls than a year ago. Final tallies will be posted here for each route as data is vetted and formatted for electronic transfer.

A Unity College ecology student anticipates a thesis project about local owls. Recently that student found a cache of saw-whet owl pellets and teased out the bones from several pellets. More details will appear here as the project develops.

MOMP route tonight

A team from Unity College will conduct MOMP route 21-4-A Thursday morning 10 April 2008 in cooperation with a team from MIT. This will be a meeting of primitive and advanced technology for owl monitoring. Will the owls cooperate?
